How to join the #CocinamosCDMX initiative that supports homeless people
Prior to quarantine, on a bike ride through the CDMX Historic Center, Abelardo Marcondes realized that many people live without a roof, a situation that we all know exists in Mexico, but few are the ones who take the time to support them and others, they prefer to just ignore the fact and go their way.
When the inevitable quarantine arrived in Mexico, the businessman and advertiser, could not ignore this fact, so he decided to launch the ‘We Cook CDMX’ project , which has been joined by brands and people with good hearts who, in the midst of chaos, they seek to support the neediest and provide food.
How does it work?
You can support these people on the street in two ways: donate food or volunteer and receive a kit that arrives at your home with food such as: tuna, pasta, protein, vegetables, oil and salt. The idea is to support them during quarantine ; So each box can arrive at your house (on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays) and so you can take out your chef skills to cook for 10 people who do not have resources something homemade, freshly made and ready to eat.
Who does the help go to?
The youngest members of the household can also participate by decorating cookies or painting the boxes with messages of hope to people who are living the pandemic precariously. Subsequently, the boxes are collected with all the relevant security measures, they are taken at 2:00 p.m. next to La Merced, in the Esperanza Church. The goal is to feed more than 200 people per day .
Companies and people immersed in gastronomy have joined the cause such as La Moderna, Estudio Millesime, Maseca, Grupo Fisher´s that contributed 100 paellas, chef Vicente Torres who also donated more than 100 meals.
Manolo Mestre , Gaby Espinoza, Esteban Abascal , the founder of El Mundo de Regina, Luisa Serna , Xuxu, the designer, Raquel Orozco , the chef Vladio Chiappetta and Caroline Muyl, are part of this volunteer group that seeks to encourage the most needy.
The goal was to reach 400 meals during the quarantine and this week the goal was exceeded reaching more than a thousand.
You add up? If you have the possibility of supporting you can send a direct message to the IG accounts of Abelardo and El Mundo de Regina, or dial directly to the number 5250-5803 .
